Senior crime reporter Jyotirmoy Dey, who spent most of his reporting career revealing the goings on in the Mumbai underworld, was shot at by four assailants, reportedly from the underworld, near his home in Powai today. He was immediately rushed to the Hiranandani Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
J Dey was working as Editor, Investigations, for the Mid-Day newspaper.Talking about Dey’s death, Mid-Day executive editor Sachin Kalbag said, “All of us here are in a state of shock. His loss is tremendous not only to Mid-Day, but also to the science and art of crime reporting."
Dey has written about Dawood Ibrahim, Chotta Rajan and others and it is reported that he was currently working on a series of Dawood. He has written extensively on the underworld. Due to his insightful stories, Dey had been regularly getting death threats.
Dey has written two books - ‘Zero Dial: The Dangerous World of Informers’ and ‘Khallas’ which is considered to be a dictionary on Mumbai’s underworld.
