Dileep: Please Don't See us Trouble Makers and as Tax Evaders

Mammootty and Mohanlal are under the scrutiny of Income Tax (I-T) sleuths, Malayalam superstar Dileep attended the tax department's 150th anniversary celebrations in Kochi as one of the chief guests.

Dileep sent the audience into ripples of laughter each time he referred to the raids against his co-superstars.

"The moment you people came to invite me, I asked my producer and director who was doing my latest film to go away because I have to be in this function," Dileep said while addressing the audience at the function Sunday night.

He said if the tax authorities ever wanted to interrogate him, all they had to do was give him a call.

"And if I don't come to you, please scare me by saying that you will now arrive at my house and I will be with you the very next moment," he said to a round of applause.

On film stars allegedly evading tax, he said: "Please don't see us trouble makers and as tax evaders. It is just that we are not good in numbers." Dileep is one of the leading individual tax payers in Kerala.

I-T officials July 22 raided Mammootty, Mohanlal, and several of their business associates across four southern cities for suspected tax evasion.

Mammootty, Mohanlal, who are known to have several business interests, are facing IT action for the first time. Our sources tell us that this could well be the first major raid on stars from the Kerala film industry.

Reports coming in suggests that IT sleuths have swooped in on the stars' offices in Kochi, Bangalore and Chennai. The duo are known to have business interests, with Mohanlal even being touted as a possible owner of an IPL team.

Mohanlal has several business ventures Maxlab Cinemas and Entertainments, a film distribution company and Vismayas Max, a film post-production studio, Mohanlal has also produced films under the banner Pranavam Arts, he owns many restaurants in Dubai, Kochi and Bangalore and is a partner in Mohanlal`s Tastebuds, a pickle and curry powder company.

On his part, Mammootty has been active in the films and television, besides owning a distribution company called 'Playhouse Entertainment' that has recently bagged the rights to distribute the upcoming film "The King and the Commissioner".

The actor, who is a qualified lawyer by profession, was also reportedly involved in the 'Smart City' project in Kochi. His name cape up in this context a few times in association with Dubai-based businessman MA Yousuf Ali and the Dubai Internet City officials.
