Ending David Akers's 12-year career in Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Eagles have removed a transitional agent tag from David Akers. He can now sign with any team. Akers, 36, has been with the team since Andy Reid’s first season as head coach, but the Eagles drafted Alex Henery to be team’s new kicker in April.Akers is the most-honored kicker in Eagles history, but he also missed two crucial kicks in a playoff loss to Green Bay, and he also reportedly turned down a contract extension last season from the Eagles.
Akers then refused in February to sign the transitional tag offered by the Eagles. One team rumored to have interest in Akers is the Dallas Cowboys, who need a reliable kicker. Akers is a five-time Pro Bowl kicker and he also made the Pro Bowl last season. He led the NFL in scoring last season with 143 points.
Henery finished his career at Nebraska as the most accurate kicker in NCAA history, connecting on 68 of 76 field goals (.895) and he was the first kicker taken as high as the fourth round since 2006.
