One person was killed and four injured when a wild elephant ran amok in the city this morning damaging vehicles and shops.
It all began when people woke up to noises of animals only to find a herd of wild jumbos enter the Bannimantapa area.
Three elephants, including a female, entered the city running amok and causing damage to shops and vehicles parked on the roadside.
A male elephant, which entered a shopping complex, killed 55-year-old Renuka Prasad, working as a security guard before rushing out.
Ater running a few kilometers through the city roads, one of the elephants entered the Sayaji Rao Road and, later, the Maharani’s College.
However, the college was yet to open its gates. It moved towards the Deputy Commissioner Office when forest officials tried to tranquilise the elephant. However, the shots missed the animal.

Later, the wild elephant went to JSS Women’s College compound where forest officials tried hard to control it.
Eyewitness accounts said the herd was first sighted by people on the outskirts of the city on the Mysore-Bangalore highway.
