Ravi Shastri summoned by Enforcement Directorate over links with former IPL chief Lalit Modi - Former cricketer Ravi Shastri has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for questioning in the IPL controversy case involving former commissioner Lalit Modi and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Senior Enforcement Directorate officials said that summons were faxed to the former Indian captain asking him to appear before it next week.Enforcement Directorate sources said apart from Shastri, former Indian captains Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi and Sunil Gavaskar were part of the eight-member governing council headed by ousted IPL chairman Modi. It was this governing council which took all key decisions of the first three editions of the IPL series. Sources said that the three former cricketers received Rs 1 crore each annually for their services.
The ED has been studying the IPL and its parent body, the Board of Control for Cricket in India, for alleged violations of foreign exchange rules. The source of funds for the IPL and some of its teams are being investigated. A parliamentary committee headed by BJP leader Yashwant Sinha had also, earlier this year, questioned Shastri and several senior members of the BCCI.
